Wales’ Centre for Digital Public Services (CDPS) is running a project to understand the readiness for automation and AI in the country’s public services.
It has begun a six-week discovery in which it is speaking with local authorities, arm’s length bodies, health and care organisations and the Welsh Government on the issue. It has indicated that it is paying particular attention to common problems and potential common solutions.
CDPS is working with the Welsh Local Government Association’s digital team and the Welsh Government on the project, and has already spoken to market leaders from the industry to understand the current technology and trends.
This is feeding into a report which should be written before Christmas and published in January 2024.
It said that it is already providing support through knowledge sharing webinars and has set up a working group to explore how to adopt relevant standards. But it also needs a clearer understanding of the public sector’s existing practices, processes and skills in the field.
