Transport for Wales has outlined plans for mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) information and appointed a technology partner to support the initiatives.
It has published a contract award notice for its agreement with Hitachi Rail, set to run for five years with an option to extend for two more and valued at £2.5 million
This follows an indication early last year that TfL was aiming to develop a MaaS solution, extending its established role as a train operator.
The new document says that it will work with Hitachi Rail and existing app and web development partners to transition its mobile and app and website into “a holistic multi-modal service”. This will position them as a “trusted digital travel companion” that integrate with rail information and ticketing systems and provide a range of other functions.
These include origin and destination search, door-to-door journey planning, turn-by-turn directions, disruption notifications, support for the use of contactless cards on future metro networks, bus information and ticketing, walking and cycling directions and interactive transport maps.
All of the services will be available in English and Welsh.
