Automation has been an important element of public services for years, but there is a sense of further progress and new opportunities opening up with the advances in AI.

In recent months there has been a stream of developments reflecting the sense of a changing dynamic, including: No.10 Downing Street has set up an Innovation Fellowship Programme on AI and Automation; the National Police Chiefs’ Council has unveiled a plan to automate checks of officers against the Police National Database; the Welsh Government has announced a pilot project on automating electoral registration; and public sector IT association Socitm has piloted a benchmarking module for adoption of AI and automation by local authorities.

Things are moving fast, and organisations throughout the public sector are eager to learn from the experience of others and obtain insights on what works best and the emerging opportunities.

This provides the focus of the next UKAuthority conference, AI, Automation and Bots4Good, set to take place online over three 90-minute sessions next week on 27, 28 and 29 November.

It will include presentations on what has been achieved, what could be achieved, the programmes to support the momentum and an exchange of ideas on the challenges and solutions in exploiting the technologies.

Range of speakers

Speakers will include: Socitm’s current president Carol Williams and vice president Kurt Frary; Lianne Anderton, delivery lead for the Intelligent Automation Garage at DWP Digital; Dr Kareem Ibrahim, digital transformation manager at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust; and Jenny McEneaney, AI lead at the Local Government Association.

There will be others from the public sector, and technology industry contributions from Matt Wicks of The Virtual Forge and Mike Stewart of ArvatoConnect.

It will provide an excellent opportunity to strengthen your understanding of the latest developments and garner new ideas for automation in the public sector, with all of its potential for increased efficiencies and a step change in service delivery.
