The Yorkshire and Humber Care Record programme has awarded a contract for the delivery of supporting technology to a consortium involving Deloitte UK, Google Cloud and healthcare interoperability specialist Synanetics.
The consortium of care organisations in the region has announced a five-year deal worth just under £4 million under which the companies will provide the technology for the population health management capability.
It has highlighted the cyber security and data privacy elements, saying that all data will be encrypted, stored securely in the UK, will remain within the NHS and not used for any other purposes.
Dr John Byrne, senior responsible officer for the Yorkshire and Humber Care Record, said: “We look forward to beginning this important work to help us better understand the needs of people living across the areas whilst ensuring the security and privacy of data remains of the highest importance.”
The record is aimed at making it easier for organisations involved in delivering care to talk to each other.
Safe sharing
It has emerged as one of NHS England’s Local Health and Care Record Exemplars – aimed at developing the safe sharing of information – and will work within the Health Systems Support Framework that provides a route for services from third party suppliers.
The partners have also committed to working with open standards to ensure a consistent language of clinical terms.
In autumn of last year the team working on the record commissioned research on people’s attitudes towards the sharing of their health and care data. It said this revealed strong support as people believe it will improve the continuity of care and accuracy of diagnosis, and 95% of participants supported their data being used for purposes such as planning services and research.
An early deployment of a local version of the record is being delivered by the Harrogate Alliance, involving a suite of four products: a shared record for health and social care; a system to link together clinical systems; an intelligence capability for population health management; and a person held record that people could access to check on and contribute to their care.
