The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care System (LLR ICS) has joined the Yorkshire and Humber Care Record (YHCR) programme.
It marks a significant step in the use of the integrated health and social care record beyond the geographic region of Yorkshire and Humber, with LLR joining Humber, Coast and Vale, South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw, and West Yorkshire and Harrogate ICSs.
The integration of records will cover 1.1 million people and involve two phases: the first covering 132 GP surgeries, University Hospitals of Leicester, Leicestershire Partnership Trust, Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council, Rutland Council and community pharmacies; followed by an extension to East Midland Ambulance Service, NHS 111, care homes and local hospices.
Dr Rowan Sil, LLR clinical lead for information management and technology, said: “After a thorough assessment of all the viable options for the region it was agreed that the YHCR would provide the best value for public money whilst having a shared ownership of the solution.
“We have joined the YHCR to enable our LLR organisations to keep our existing electronic clinical and care systems that provide continuity for their current needs, whilst also progressing our ambition for a shared care record.”
Dr John Byrne, senior responsible officer for the YHCR, said the new members will bring new ideas and challenges to the evolving work of the programme.
