Wyre Council has released an augmented reality (AR) app to take people through a story along the Cleveleys coastline.

Named the Cleveleys Mythic Coast Trail, it has been developed by digital arts company This Great Adventure under the council’s Discover Wyre trails project.

It provides an immersive digital story, which includes sounds and sights, of different structures along a trail, based on a book The Sea Swallow written by Gareth Thompson and illustrated by Hannah Magee. Features include 3D digital art, animation, poetry and music.

Cllr Lynne Bowen, Wyre’s portfolio holder for leisure, health and community engagement, said: “The story of the sea swallows is well known and loved in Cleveleys. It’s great to know that locals and tourists can now enjoy seeing the story come to life. We are excited to invite people to download the app and experience it for themselves.

The app is available through the App Store and Google Play.

Wyre said it will continue to work with The Great Adventure to develop AR guides to a series of trails in Fleetwood and Garstang.
