A shared service for Worcestershire is planning a major deployment of air quality sensors across the county.
Worcestershire Regulatory Services has agreed on a contract with EarthSense for a three-year monitoring project that will involve a network of 24 of the company’s Zephyr air quality monitors – the second largest in the country.
It will also include the deployment of the firm’s MappAir modelling tools, MyAir web app and API access.
EarthSense said it will cover the districts of Bromsgrove, Redditch, Malvern Hills, Wychavon and Wyre Forest, along with Worcester City, enabling the local authorities to disseminate public health information and alerts about poor air quality episodes and advise the public on interventions to reduce pollution and exposure levels.
The project is funded by an Air Quality Grant from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The company said it will significantly improve the accuracy of nitrogen dioxide monitoring and upgrade the monitoring of particulate matter and other pollutants over the three years.
