Homeworking could become the norm for many public sector employees after the Covid-19 pandemic.
The need for social distancing has triggered a massive change in working practices, supported by digital platforms and infrastructure, that has created benefits for many employees that they will be unwilling to give up. It has also pointed the way to how organisations can gain from a reduction in office space and a more flexible workforce with a better work/life balance.
But there are still barriers in the way of a long term shift, in cultural attitudes towards work, the personal circumstances of employees and connectivity shortcomings in some parts of the country. There are also issues around issues around the new demands on security, how organisations manage their networks and the best way to harness cloud services.
The prospects for a long term shift to home working, supported by digital systems, will provide the basis for a one-house UKA Live discussion set for Friday 17 July at 11.00 am and sponsored by Cisco.
Is homeworking the new normal? will take in the technology issues around home working with a focus on three key factors: zero trust security; software defined networking; and cloud managed networks.
Taking part will Gareth Bulpin of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Andrew Candish of Cisco UK Central Government, Richard Archdeacon of Cisco Advisory and Paul Berry of Meraki UK Public Sector. The event will be hosted by UKA publisher Helen Olsen.
Anyone watching the event live will be able to submit questions to the panellists and raise issues that they see as priorities. It requires pre-registration, which can be carried out through the link below.
