Wigan Council has renewed its ICT services partnership with Agilisys under a new 10-year contract.

The company said it will involve exploring the potential of generative AI to support the council’s New Era programme.

While the value of the new contract has not yet been disclosed, the tender notice published in October 2022 indicated it would be in the region of £95 million. This indicated that it would cover all the council’s IT requirements, including the introduction of a new enterprise architecture framework.

Cllr Nazia Rehman, cabinet portfolio holder for finance, resources and transformation at Wigan, said: “We are pleased to be signing this new agreement with Agilisys that will not only ensure the council has high quality services that will benefit our service delivery but will also provide a boost within our communities.

“This partnership has a strong track record of creating employment opportunities within Wigan Borough and investing in local projects, long may that continue over the next 10 years.

“As part of the council’s digital transformation agenda, making sure we have state-of-the-art technology so that our residents get the most out of their council services is vitally important.”

Revolutionise services

The Agilisys announcement said it will “revolutionise service delivery through technology”, and that the company has already run workshops with senior leaders in the council to explore possibilities. This has produced over 100 actional ideas and led to the adoption of company’s QuickAction tool for encrypted access to the latest GPT-4 32K OpenAI model.

Agilisys entered a partnership with Wigan Council, Wigan and Leigh Housing Company, Wigan Leisure Culture Trust and Bolton Council in 2013. The scope of the collaboration has since increased with a shift towards cloud-centric architectures, automation, user experience and analytics monitoring.

Bolton entered its own partnership with Agilisys early last year.
