Westminster City Council is to offer its residents a smartphone digital card for them to access a range of local services.
It said the card is being made available for download to Apple Wallet and Google Pay, can be used in conjunction with the MyWestminster portal and is one of the first of its type to be rolled out by a local authority.
It will initially provide access to Westminister’s library services and be compatible with the City Save scheme, which offers residents discounts on food and drink in some outlets and entry to galleries.
There are plans for other services such as leisure centres to be added in the coming months.
The move is part of the council’s Smart City for All initiative, which aims to use technology to support local people and help achieve net zero targets.
Workshops for residents who need support on the use of the card and the MyWestminster portal will be set up.
Strategy into action
Aruj Haider, Westminster’s chief digital and innovation officer, said: “For us, a truly smart city puts the needs of its residents at the heart of how services are designed – the launch of the MyWestminster portal and card puts this strategy into action. As we add services to our digital card, we hope our city will become even be more accessible for the benefit of all.
“We are excited to open up the portal to our residents, as a vital part of our Smart City for All ambition. Intuitive and easy-to-use, it will enable residents to navigate a range of services with confidence and ease.”
