The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has announced plans for a virtual open week for the region’s schools and colleges on 22-26 June.
It said it will enable students to explore learning and career options, and support careers leaders in schools, while the pandemic lockdown is preventing the staging of physical open days.
The exercise will be based on the Launchyourcareer platform, an online resource that is free for schools and students to use.
Schools will register on the platform and pupils will create a profile and identify careers and subject areas that interest them most.
Colleges design live sessions which are then timetabled across the week and matched to students’ choices.
WMCA is working on the project with Tamworth based digital innovation company Dev Clever and with the support of Birmingham education charity Titan Partnship and the Careers Development Institute.
Helping young people
Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street said: “The virtual open week is a great initiative during this difficult time to help young people from across the West Midlands to find out more about the careers that interest them most.
“We are proud to be supporting the week, and I would urge all students to make the most of this opportunity to explore what’s on offer from our local colleges.”
