Two Welsh police forces have agreed with Saab to use its SAFE unified command and control solution.
South Wales Police and Gwent Police have arranged the deal with the company under the supply framework set up by their joint digital services and division, taking the number of forces using the system to seven.
It will replace a range of legacy control room solutions with a single user interface for mission critical and operations management.
The contracts are set to run for seven years with options for three one-year extensions.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Travis of South Wales Police said: “This digital solution will replace our legacy systems across both police forces in Gwent and South Wales. This has been driven by our own people. It is about improving services to public safety, our officers and staff.
“It’ll offer all our teams improved efficiency so we can provide a better policing service to meet our community needs.”

This technology will equip our officers and staff for the future, to deliver a more effective service to the public and help protect our communities.”
SAFE was developed in partnership with emergency services operations and is now in use in the control rooms of over 30 organisations in the UK.
The framework agreement is open to the majority of emergency services organisations in Wales and is valid for the next four years, with an estimated value of £48 million if used to the full.
