A team in the Welsh Government is planning to develop a national data science partnership.
The data science and administrative data research unit has unveiled the plan, saying it aims to have the partnership in place by March of next year.
This comes six months after the unit was set up to help building the capability in the Welsh Government and identify projects for development.
Head of the unit John Morris said a Wales data science partnership would involve representatives from the public sector, academia and the third sector, and work with the Data Science Campus of the Office of National Statistics and the new Centre for Digital Public Services.
Among its priorities will be to identify opportunities for funding and investment and to develop a vision for using data science for the public good.
There are also plans for the unit to begin using its own secure environment alongside the UK Secure Research Platform which it has been using until now, and to run taster sessions in data science for data analysts.
“We are starting to explore and showcase what we can do, demonstrating that data science can help us to understand our data far better enabling us to further support decision making in Welsh Government,” Morris said.
