All schoolchildren in Wales will access online repository for schoolwork and grades to improve support at home and school.
The Welsh Government plans to develop an online system to enable schoolchildren aged 3-16 in Wales to create and own an
‘e-portfolio’ of their learning achievements.
It aims to help teachers at primary, secondary and special schools to better support learners by improving the feedback mechanism with parents and carers.
The e-portfolio will let learners save work and record achievements and experiences at school and outside of school. It will allow teachers to record grades and experiences and to award 'e-badges' to prove accomplishments.
A request for a supplier to develop and test the technology as part of an initial ‘discovery' phase was advertised on GOV.UK’s digital marketplace. The winner of the contract will be required to conduct research and present a prototype for the development and delivery of the system.
The contract, worth £60,000, is expected to last for eight weeks.
The move follows the publication of the Successful Futures report, an independent review of curriculum and assessment arrangements in Wales, commissioned from Professor Donaldson by the Welsh Government.
The report, which laid out the fundamental purposes of education in Wales and recommended curriculum and assessment arrangements accordingly, includes recommendation 47: “Children and Young people should develop their own e-portfolio, possibly including ‘e-badges’, to record key achievements and experiences.”
The supplier will need to travel to various locations across Wales to meet with children and young people, teachers, parents and other stakeholders as required, according to the notice.
