Healthcare ICT specialist Ascom UK has won the contract to provide NHS Wales with a new critical care clinical information system.
Velindre NHS Trust, which has run the procurement, has published the contract award notice indicating a seven-year deal, with the options of three one-year extensions, with a value of £15.3 million.
The notice says the CCCIS should provide an electronic system for approximately 200 beds in the critical care units in Welsh hospitals, which are currently dependent on a paper based solution.
It “will automatically capture patient data directly from the bedside monitors to standardise care thereby reducing waste, harm and variation. The computerised bedside system will also automatically pull and collate data from medical devices such as monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps and other equipment to populate a complete critical care record.”
The CCIS will also link with other hospital systems, drawing patient demographics from patient administration systems and pathology results from the Welsh Clinical Portal.
It will be implemented in a phased approach across NHS Wales.
The Welsh Clinical Portal brings together and displays patient information from a number of sources, and enables clinicians to send, receive and manage electronic referrals, and receive various test results and access patient records.
