Wandsworth Council is introducing software that estimates social care personal budgets and allocates educational top-up funding for children and young people.
The London borough will use Imosphere’s Formulate product to determine personal budgets within social care and calculate top-up funding for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) through the software’s education banding tool. This will provide a consistent process for allocating funding and allow the council to monitor trends.
“Following on from direct work with parents, we decided to introduce Formulate to provide us with a system that was transparent, equitable and fair,” said Deborah Johnson, Wandsworth Council’s head of Send and inclusion. “Allowing us to allocate funding equitably based on the individual child or young person’s identified needs. By calculating specific funding bands, we are able to make the funding allocation process simpler and also provide parents and schools with a better understanding of this element of the assessment process.”
The council decided to introduce Formulate in June 2021, and is currently undertaking data collection work. It plans to go live with the system early in 2022.
The system is also used by councils including Devon, Herefordshire, Northamptonshire and Rochdale.
