The Welsh Government’s digital team is creating a new platform for public sector organisations to publish geospatial data.
It has completed a discovery phase on the project, capturing some of the user requirements, and has now begun work on the alpha with the aim of producing a working prototype.
The project has grown out of the earlier creation of Lle, a geoportal that serves as a hub for data related primarily to the environment.
A blogpost by Sean Williams, Lle project management in the Welsh Government, says there has been a recognition that the portal could be used in decision making and that the vision is to produce a shared data platform that could be accessed by anyone.
The discovery phase led to the design of a scalable platform incorporating a secure area and the capacity to host data at varying security levels. The team is also aiming to improve accessibility and usability and improve the look and feel of the platform.
It does not yet have a name, but the team is going to collect suggestions.
