NHS England has set up an online self-service support portal for users of the new Federated Data Platform (FDP).
It has described the resource as a Centre of Excellence, saying it was made available to NHS trust users earlier this month and will be rolled out more widely during August.
The FDP makes it possible to connect operational data from a wide range of sources in England’s healthcare system. Every hospital and integrated care system (ICS) will have their own version of the platform to connect with others within the federated platform.
Programme director Rebecca Llewellyn said the Centre of Excellence has been developed based on feedback from expected users and provides a suite of self-service training, user guides, drop-in surgeries and training events.
“This site will help to foster collaboration through a thriving community network enabling users to connect, collaborate, share insights and best practice in the pursuit of improving outcomes for patients,” she said.
Enhancements and optimisation
She added that the number of trusts using the FDP is increasing “at pace” and that in September the programme will move from transition to delivery phase, with the focus extending from onboarding trusts and ICS to product enhancements and optimisation.
During August the programme team plans to run a series of virtual ‘learning lunch’ sessions.
Llewellyn also highlighted five key NHS priorities that the FEDP is aimed at supporting: elective recovery, care coordination, vaccination and immunisation, population health managed and supply chain management.
There are currently four products available to organisations using the FDP, for: referral to treatment validation, inpatients care coordination, outpatients care coordination and discharge planning.
She added that organisations can also, with approval, develop their own digital tools to work with the FDP.
The prime contractor for the development of the platform is a consortium led by Palantir Technologies, and KPMG has a role in supporting trusts and ICSs in the implementation of their own platforms.
