Taking place on 22 May 2025 at 55 Bishopsgate, London, the GeoPlace Annual Conference brings together professionals from local and central government to explore how location data is transforming public service delivery by driving efficiency, cutting costs and delivering savings

With a packed agenda of expert speakers, live case studies, panel discussions, and interactive roundtables, the conference showcases practical, real world applications of how geospatial data, including UPRNs and USRNs, improve efficiency, coordination and outcomes across sectors.

The day opens with keynote sessions from HMRC, the Bank of England and policy experts, focusing on how location data underpins interoperability across government, economic resilience, and the future of street works. A vibrant mid-morning roundtable session enables attendees to engage in peer-to-peer discussions across 30 specialist topics, including local government reorganisation – lessons learned from authorities that have already been through the process of combining systems.

Later sessions delve into the data lifecycle and planning for sustainable communities, with speakers from MHCLG, the National Fire Chiefs Council, MadeTech, and Addland. These presentations explore how accurate, timely geospatial data underpins everything from building safety to housing delivery, and how integrating planning and building control systems can enable real time, automated reporting back to government on housing targets. Together, they highlight the critical role of location data in creating safer, more responsive, and better connected communities.

Case studies

The opening afternoon session showcases how local authorities are using location data to turn strategy into meaningful service improvements. Featuring a range of real world case studies, it demonstrates the power of integrated geospatial systems in driving more effective planning, funding, and public service outcomes.

  • Tower Hamlets shares an innovative methodology for linking school and GP data using spatial and temporal identifiers to assess the impact of Universal Free School Meals on child health and education outcomes.
  • Lewisham highlights how its LLPG supports better asset management across departments.
  • Kingston upon Thames & Sutton reveal how pre-Census address matching—identifying HMOs, traveller sites and student residences—unlocked more accurate funding allocations.
  • Wiltshire & Swindon Prepared presents a joined-up approach to emergency planning and supporting vulnerable residents through coordinated data use across the southwest.
  • Reading Borough Council illustrates how its centralised GIS and data team connects council services through integrated systems powered by location data.
  • Tameside shares lessons learned from embedding UPRNs into planning processes, improving service coordination and data flow.

Other sessions highlights the role of street data in mapping, road and street works coordination, highway asset management, route planning, disruption mitigation and traffic management, with contributions from DfT, Ordnance Survey and West Sussex County Council. In a parallel session Leeds City Council, Royal Mail and the VOA come together in a panel session to the discuss exchange of information between local government and its partners.

The day concludes with a presentation from the Local Government Association on its ‘Best Kept Secret’ campaign, a look at process transformation at the Valuation Office Agency, and the presentation of the prestigious GeoPlace Exemplar Awards, recognising outstanding achievements in the use of address and street data in local government.

Exhibition showcasing service delivery

Alongside the main sessions, attendees can explore an exhibition of over 25 suppliers and knowledge partners showcasing practical tools and technologies that support location based service delivery.

Whether you’re a data practitioner, policy lead, planner, or digital transformation specialist, the GeoPlace Conference offers a full day of insight, inspiration, and connection—celebrating the people behind the data that powers local government.
