The University of South Wales (USW) has signed Dutch company Lone Rooftop to provide a digital system to improve its space utilisation and timetabling.
In a deal valued at £190,00 it has contracted for the use of space utilisation management software for monitoring how its property estate is being used and the efficiency of its timetabling processes.
The university, which has 28,000 students and 2,000 members of staff spread over three campuses and 80 buildings, has identified a poor utilisation of its space. According to the contract notice this is 17% below the UK average.
It is subsequently planning to implement a system to provide for monitoring and a better understanding of how its rooms are being used.
“The result needs to be a greater understanding of the amount of space required to deliver a high quality learning environment, eventually allowing the university to reduce its footprint and improve the quality of the space it retains,” the notice says.
The specification for the system includes the ability to record the utilisation of individual rooms, graphical displays of trends, the capability to integrate with USW’s Scientia Syllabus Plus timetabling software, and the ability to export the data in various formats. The university also required the capability to integrate with existing and future APIs so it can expand its use of the system over time.
