The UK Cyber Security Council is to take on the running of the Certified Cyber Professional (CCP) scheme.
The move has been announced by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), which currently operates the scheme, saying full details will be announced at the CYBERUK 2022 event.
Under the change, the council – set up last year to support the professional development of cyber security specialists – will run the CCP scheme as it operates today, take ownership of the relevant standards and existing certifications and gradually develop its own beginning with risk management and security architecture.
The NCSC will continue to recognise the qualifications.
16 specialisms
Anna W, head of NCSC industry assurance, said in a blogpost that it does not expect the council to simply adopt existing standards but to gather input on new ones, which will be relevant to 16 specialisms.
“Whilst this will mean the end of the existing CCP scheme, the ability to identify specialist expertise will continue to be met through the work of the council,” she said. “We will support the council in this work through the transition period, until we can fully step back.”
She added that the work on transferring the management of the scheme has already begun.
