UK Biobank has awarded DNAnexus a three-year contract to provide an informatics platform as a managed service.
The organisation, a charity that provides data for health researchers internationally, has chosen the company to run a platform that can provide access to and analysis of data it holds for registered users.
The deal is valued on the contract notice at £2 million.
It will make it possible for users to run analysis through the platform, rather than downloading the data into their own environments. This is becoming necessary as the resource is set to grow over the next five years to reach approximately 15 petabytes of data.
DNAnexus runs a cloud platform that is says provides a secure environment for scientific collaboration and research. It recently raised $100 million for a cloud based analytics platform aimed at genomics and other clinical big data, according to a report in techcrunch.
In recent months UK Biobank has provided a data resource in studying elements of the Covid-19 pandemic, with investigations covering issues such as the risk among ethnic minorities and possibilities around immunity.
