Government Digital Service (GDS) and HM Treasury has published guidance to clarify the rules for government spending on Agile management projects as part of its drive to cut bureaucracy and encourage innovation.
The guidance will help agile and finance teams in government departments when securing budgets for large projects that use Agile management techniques.
The document recommends, for example, that projects track progress against business cases using Agile burn charts (which show outstanding work and the time remaining on a project) rather than using traditional lengthy IT documents. The guidance also suggests avoiding the Full Business Case stage where there is a more efficient alternative for procurement such as the Digital Services Framework.
David Wilks, GDS Digital Performance Manager wrote "this could be the most exciting administrative change this year in supporting an Agile culture in government" in his blog post.
'Agile digital and IT projects: clarification of business case guidance' is based on consultation from central government departments and the Major Projects Authority.
