Transport for London (TfL) is planning to upgrade its network of digital displays of real time information on its bus service.

It has taken on Vix Technology to roll out the next generation of long life, battery powered LED, e-paper and TFT (thin film transistor) displays. The company said this will help to provide sustainable, energy-efficient solutions.

A pilot project is planned for next winter with full deployment expected to complete in 2027. It is expected to be the largest implementation of the RTIG T047 standard for display management.

Vix said it bring TfL’s display network under a single management platform, which supports a variety of display types from different vendors, giving managers visibility over all display and stop information.

It also allows for the integration of legacy hardware and provides the option to add new displays to the state.

Michael Hart, chief revenue officer at Vix Technology, said: “Many more people across the city will have access to clear, reliable travel updates, making everyday journeys easier. This is about giving Londoners a better experience today while building a greener, smarter, more connected transport network for the future.”
