Transport for London (TfL) has implemented software from Sopra Steria in a new incident management system.

It deployed the new system in April under a four-year contract with the company for its development, and has reportedly already used it in the management of the London Marathon and the King’s Coronation.

The software generates rapid alerts for TfL by analysing large volumes of data on factors such as road accidents, traffic congestion and roadworks. This enables TfL to respond quickly and to pass information on the incidents to relevant organisations such as emergency services and local authorities.

Transformative

Irfan Shaffi, operational control manager at TfL, said: “The transformative system produced from our work with Sopra Steria will enable TfL to manage our surface transport network much more effectively, and gives us a vital tool to keep London moving.

“This project within TfL’s wider Surface Intelligent Transport Systems (SITS) programme, in combination with the other technology tools in development, gives us excellent situational awareness and facilitates the strong green heartbeat needed to deliver upon the mayor’s Transport Strategy.”

Adrian Fieldhouse, managing director, government and transport at Sopra Steria, said it is a scalable and flexible solution that can be adapted to new technologies as they emerge.
