Telford and Wrekin Council has launched a demand-responsive transport (DRT) app for use around the Ironbridge Gorge world heritage site.
The app became available for use on a pilot basis at the beginning of this week and enables users to plan and book trips based on their specific journey.
It gives them access to real time travel information on local bus services, including suggested routes using either the on-demand service from 8am to 5.30pm on weekdays.
The move has been accompanied by the establishment of ‘virtual stops’ for the bus routes, which are shared through the app and based on the user’s location. The council said these can provide more convenient pick-up and drop-off points than the traditional stops.
Volunteers' role
It has also called on volunteers to contact it by email to help create user guides.
The service extends from Ironbridge Gorge into Telford town centre and Madely, and if the pilot proves successful it will be rolled out into other areas.
Telford and Wrekin’s cabinet member for the economy, Cllr Ollie Vickers, said: “This is an exciting new development, the on-demand app brings a level of flexibility that will significantly improve travel for residents and tourists alike.
“We’re keen to invite people along to help us test the app and make sure it works for everyone so if you would like to get involved, please get in touch, we’d love to have real feedback from a range of people.”
