Swansea Council has signed Capita on a five-year, £700,000 contract to migrate its education software to a cloud system.
The move will involve shifting statutory education functions such as admissions and additional learning needs to the company’s Azure based software-as-a-service, to be used by the education department and relevant staff in other departments such as social services, benefits and community safety.
It will also support Swansea’s Citizen Portal, which is used to apply for school places and support for additional learning needs, and student assessment and tracking by enabling the council to process formative assessment data on pupils.
In addition, it will help to provide cross-analysis against contextual factors such as additional learning needs and measures of deprivation.
Capita said that the benefits are expected to include improve reporting and analysis, and better data sharing with stakeholders such as further education colleges and Careers Wales.

Moving our education services to the cloud will help us improve the way we support the education needs of our communities.”
