Surrey County Council is rolling out a digital support package for tens of thousands of unpaid carers in the county.
It is working with the carer led digital community Mobilise to provide support through an online hub that provides access to a range of support services.
These include a UK-wide online peer community of fellow carers for sharing advice and support, and self-service tools outlining how to obtain different forms of support such as carer’s allowance and other benefits.
It also includes tailor-made support guides on issues such as balancing caring and managing personal health and wellbeing, information on carers’ rights, and an AI powered assistant to help users find information and resources quickly.
Crucial role
Sinead Mooney, Surrey County Council’s cabinet member for adult social care, said: “Carers play a crucial role in families and in our local communities by supporting people who would otherwise struggle to cope alone, which is why it’s so important for us to make sure carers themselves are cared for.
“We’re pleased to be partnering with Mobilise to reach more carers across Surrey and support them in new and different ways. I’d encourage anyone who looks after a family member or friend to visit the Mobilise online community and explore the additional support available.”
The council has estimated that there are at least 90,000 people currently providing unpaid care for loved ones across Surrey.
