Suffolk County Council’s digital care service has claimed a series of significant achievements to mark the two-year anniversary of its launch.
Cassius, a joint venture with solutions provider Alcove, has reportedly saved 180,000 care hours over the past year, with 12,900 hours less in relation to the hospital discharge pilot alone.
It has supported 4,700 people, with daily totals of up to 3,500, providing them with 9,600 devices; and delivered a £12.9 million reduction in the council’s spend on social care, along with £430,000 saving on ambulance call outs and £1.31 million on preventative measures.
In addition, Cassius now offers a portfolio of around 100 different types of devices, and has run programmes including a reablement initiative in two Suffolk care homes.
A spin-off, Cassisus+, has introduced additional health monitoring and assessment tools, including blood pressure monitors, oximeters, scales and thermometers for patients with long term conditions to track their vital signs.
Beacon of innovation
Cllr Beccy Hopfensperger, cabinet member for adult care at Suffolk County Council, said: “Cassius stands out as a beacon of innovation in social care, and has produced excellent results in keeping individuals independent regardless of their needs. Together, we believe we can redesign services, improve customer experiences, and harness data to optimise care planning and delivery.”
