Stockport Council to share digital lessons

31/08/18

Stockport Council has offered to share what it has learned from its Digital by Design Programme with other public sector organisations.

It has announced plans for a series of open days in the borough on 2 October, 13 November and 24 January.

The metropolitan borough pointed to the Local Digital Declaration, created by the Local Digital team at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, and said it is keen to help other authorities learn from its experience of the three-year-old programme.

Among the changes it highlighted are building its in-house capability, creating its own software and training its workforce to be adaptable to changes in technology.

Need for collaboration

A statement from Stockport said: “It’s never been more important for local authorities and public bodies to work together and share learning experiences. Digital transformation is a complex, expensive and time-consuming activity and it is only with collaboration that we will be able to work at the scale and pace needed.

“Which is why we’re opening our doors to other local authorities and public bodies who are embarking on the same digital transformation journey as ourselves. Whilst we are still learning ourselves, we are also keen to help others learn and we consider it our responsibility to contribute to the open learning culture that is one of the key principles of the Local Digital Declaration.”

Anyone interested in attending the open days can contact the council at digital@stockport.gov.uk.
