Stockport Council announces new digital inclusion hub

Stockport Council has joined with Sky, Age UK Stockport and DigiKnow in setting up a new hub to support digital inclusion in the area.

It is the first to be established in Greater Manchester is part of a plan from broadband and mobile network provider Sky to set up 1,000 in the UK and Ireland.

This will involve the investment of £100,000 in each location.

The Stockport hub is expected to support over 1,000 people with access to digital devices, free Wi-Fi connections and digital skills workshops.

Council leader Cllr Mark Hunter said: "This new community hub is exciting news for Stockport and a fantastic free resource for residents. Stockport Council is delighted to support this collaboration between our local voluntary sector and business community, working together as partners to build a better future for everyone.”

Unlocking opportunities

Fiona Ball, Sky’s group director for bigger picture and sustainability, commented: “Sky is focused on helping people in Stockport unlock new opportunities with tools, skills and programmes that we provide through our new Digital Hub.

“With our partners, we are committed to tackling digital inequality, empowering people to get online and fulfil their potential.”
