Staffordshire County Council has appointed Cadcorp to provide a cloud hosted geographic information system (GIS) and web mapping service.
The contract, which was awarded through G-Cloud and went into operation in June, is set to run for two years with an option to extend, and is giving up to 100 users at the council access to Cadcorp’s SIS Desktop, SIS WebMap and Spatial Database Service.
The company said the council saw the contract as an opportunity to significantly reduce the time spent by staff on using Ordnance Survey (OS) data in business functions. The SIS Desktop UI provides access to the OS Data Hub through an API.
The Cadcorp Spatial Database Service is providing a centralised location for the storage of spatial data.
Wendy Tompson, Staffordshire’s insight manager, commented: “GIS helps the council derive insights and informs decision making and strategy. More specifically, it supports the council’s digital agenda to transform how we use technology and data to connect, inform, and support our citizens.
“The Cadcorp solution can meet our requirements for both desktop and web GIS usage and supports our transition to a cloud-based platform, securing a sustainable GIS offering for the organisation.”
