St Mary’s Hospital, Isle of Wight NHS Trust has upgraded its primary data centre to improve energy efficiency.
The new facility was delivered by Secure I.T. Environments (SITE), which designed and installed the original data centre in 2008.
The trust has wanted to take advantage of new sustainable technologies while redesigning the centre to accommodate 14 racks with a maximum data load of 80kW. SITE said the upgrade will allow the trust to reach its target cooling power usage effectiveness of 1.15 or lower and is projected to provide return on investment in less than 1.8 years.
Several changes
Works included the design of a new rack layout, the implementation of cold aisle containment to new and existing racks, the installation of four DMA030D GEA Multi-DENCO energy efficient DX ai conditioning units with external condensers, and the replace of uninterruptable power supply with a Riello MPSW PWC Multipower UPS solution.
Other measures included the upgrade of the fire suppression layout for the new rack arrangement, electrical and raised flooring work and the responsible disposal of removed equipment.
