Two police forces in the South West of England have implemented a new geographic information system (GIS) from Cadcorp.
Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police agreed on a joint contract with the company in June and have now completed the roll out of the system, which involves Cadcorp SIS Desktop, SIS WebMap and GeognoSIS as a server GIS.
The contract also involved support, training and a range of professional services.
The police forces share a strategic alliance in over 30 administrative and operational business,
Cadcorp said that SIS WebMap will be used in the control room to display resource locations and support officer safety and response times, and on mobile devices to provide access to data while on the beat.
It will be integrated with a range of applications including Sopra Steria’s STORM for command and control, the NicheRMS police records management system and the Idox Gazetteer Management System.
Dynamic visualisation
David Scott, ICT applications area lead at Devon & Cornwall Police, commented: “The visual representation of data that the Cadcorp mapping system provides is dynamic, making information and location quick and easy to consume.
“Cadcorp corporate GIS and web mapping meets our requirements and provides best value for both our organisations. It will help us keep building a more transparent, proactive, sustainable and resilient service for our communities.”
In May of this year the two police forces went public with a 10-year managed IT service contract with BT.
