Socitm publishes briefing on Covid recovery for councils

01/07/21

Public sector IT association Socitm has published a policy briefing on local authority recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, with an emphasis on four Rs – reset, reform, renew and resilient.

It said it comes from an examination of over 200 councils’ recovery and resilience strategies, and that the four pillars provide a starting point for place based recovery and resilience.

The paper defines the four Rs individually as: reset ethical principles, respecting social, economic and ecological foundations; reform public services by embracing innovation and modernisation; renew communities by collaborating across place and encouraging self-sufficiency; and being resilient to disruptive changes, to thrive and achieve better, sustainable and inclusive outcomes for everyone.

It has made the briefing freely available on its website along with an infographic on place based recovery, along with urging local authorities to share their experiences on recovery and resilience.

Author and associate director of Socitm, William Barker, said: “Councils are leading place based post-Covid strategic recovery and Socitm has drawn on this to create resource which we are sure will be really useful as support to that ongoing work. This might be in seeing what others are doing and drawing inspiration or using the resources to sense check their own strategies and plans.”
