South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM) has begun to use the Better Meds e-prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) solution under a framework set up by CGI.
It implemented the software from Better UK in April under a three-year deal worth £1.1 million.
The solution enables the trust to set up procedures through a combination of out-of-the-box offerings and personalisation, aimed at eliminating paper charts and providing clinicians with real time access to patient records.
The application follows an open standards approach that enables all integrated trusts to quickly retrieve the information.

Stuart MacLellan, acting chief information officer at SLAM, said: “We are working to deliver our strategic aim to provide outstanding mental health care, as outlined in our five-year strategy Aiming High: Changing Lives.
“Our digital strategy is a vital part of this, which includes harnessing digital innovations, reducing digital exclusion and enabling people to adopt technology to improve our services. The e-prescribing and medicines administration solution will improve patient safety while helping us to deliver a high-quality care.”
SLAM is the first trust to use the CGI framework but a spokesperson for the company said it has been procured by other trusts through other channels.
