Sheffield City Council is setting up a data academy to provide skills training for 150 of its staff.

It is launching the initiative as part of its Future Sheffield programme, with funding from the apprenticeship levy and training delivered by tech skills company Multiverse.

The cohort of staff will take a range of courses including the level 3 apprenticeship dtaa and insights for business decisions and level 4 data fellowship.

Multiverse said that once completed, the participants will be able to conduct data led projects.

Cllr Fran Belbin, Sheffield City Council’s deputy leader, said: “The launch of this 150-strong academy not only marks a commitment to our colleagues’ professional development, but also to our local community.

“As we seek to enhance operations and reduce time spent with data, we can focus on what matters – providing residents with the highest quality service.”

Sheffield has followed councils including Hillingdon and Essex in setting up a data academy with Multiverse.
