A mobile app providing guidance on infection prevention control (IPC) has been made available to social care staff in Scotland.
Named Preventing infection in social care settings, it has been developed in a partnership of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and the Digital Health and Innovation Centre (DHIC).
The app has been developed for the social care workforce, is based on the pocketbook Preventing Infection in Social Care Settings, and aligns with IPC guidance, in particular the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual and the Care Home Infection Prevention and Control Manual.
It has been trialled with workers in different settings across Scotland, including the South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership.
Right Decisions suite
DHIC said the app is part of an expanding suite of tools, Right Decisions for Health and Care, to help social care staff make quick decisions based on validated evidence.
Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport Maree Todd MSP said: “The app is a great example of collaborative working to develop a user-friendly resource for social care staff, ensuring the latest infection prevention and control guidance is at their fingertips.
“I am pleased to see that this app has been shaped by social care staff to support and enhance their practice and ultimately improve care for people they support.”
