Scotland’s Improvement Service (IS) and the British Geological Survey have been commissioned by Scottish Government Digital Planning to undertake a planning data pathfinder.
IS - the public sector body that supports local government in Scotland - said it will take forward the work they began last year with an exploratory report on the issue.
The pathfinder will support the mission one of Scotland’s digital strategy for planning, ‘Unlocking the value of planning data’, and will focus on how to assess, monitor and improve data quality in certain key areas of the planning system such as the local development plan process, the environment, and health
The intention is to develop guidance and improve discoverability and access to data for anyone working within the planning sector, including specific tools that will help ensure greater consistency and efficiency in data usage across the whole planning process.
As part of the work, IS will be collaborating with the Scottish Government and Heads of Planning Scotland – the representative organisation for senior planning officers – on a series of workshops with key stakeholders over the coming months, culminating in a final report by the end of this year.
