The Scottish Government’s new SG Payments Service has been used for the first time as part of the beta phase of its development.
It has been deployed in a payroll run for the Independent Living Fund Scotland, which operates a fund to support disabled people.
The Scottish Government Digital Directorate, which is leading the development of the service, said the deployment went successfully and provided a number of insights for the development team.
It is now drawing up a roadmap of upgrades and improvements as it moves towards the full launch, and is looking for partners to use the service. This is part of an incremental design programme.
The directorate began to work on the service in 2019, aiming to set up a single platform to replace a range of payments systems in the Scottish public sector. It said this would cut down on bureaucracy and repetition and support the establishment of standards in payment processes across the public sector.
Writing in a blogpost, Alasdair Murray, business analyst, cloud and digital services in the directorate, said: “We’re creating a Payments Services that reduces duplication, inefficiency and inconsistency in payment processes across the public sector, and aligns with the Scottish Government’s Digital Strategy.”
