Scottish Borders Council has launched the Inspire Academy with the aim of supporting education technology projects and local authorities across Scotland and the rest of the UK.
The move comes from its Inspire Learning Programme and accreditation with Apple as a professional learning provider by the global technology company.
The programme has involved a series of events with partners to share learning on education transformation projects, and Scottish Borders said the academy will provide services such as professional learning and expand the range of training on offer.
It will generate income for the council that it said will be re-invested in the learning programme.
Rising demand
Cllr Leagh Douglas, executive member for education and lifelong learning, said: “The increasing importance of the role of technology in education is clear at all levels, and the demand for accredited professional learning to support educators and learners is forecast to increase over the coming years, to support education through building enhanced digital skills and teaching.
“Scottish Borders, as one of only two Apple professional learning providers in the UK, and the only local authority with this accreditation, is in a unique position to deliver this learning.
“This is a further example of the Scottish Borders being at the forefront of digital learning and demonstrates our commitment to making the Scottish Borders the best place in the world to teach and learn.”
Lesley Munro, director of education and lifelong learnings, said: “The Council has built outstanding experience and skills to share and holds a unique accreditation position to support it in doing so.
“Together these enable the council to offer a valuable set of services to others, supporting them in their digital education journeys and in turn providing additional options for continued investment in our Borders teachers and young people.”
