Local Authority Building Standards Scotland is developing a learning management system (LMS) to support training through a virtual learning environment.
The system is being developed with support from the Building Standards Hub Pilot – an initiative to support local authority building standards teams and relevant stakeholders – and funded by the Building Standards Division of the Scottish Government.
It is being built on an online learning platform from specialist supplier Learning Pool, and will accommodate digital learning in varying formats.
A blogpost by James Whiteford, a director at the Building Standards Hub, said this will involve training material developed in-house along with interactive video presentations, and allow users to enrol on courses, track and test their progress and keep a record of what they have completed.
Progress tracking
Managers and administrators will also have the ability to track the progress of staff through reporting tools on the platform.
So far, the development has involved the configuration of the LMS platform to support around 30 training programmes, some created as test courses, and user acceptance testing took place in September and October of last year.
The next phase will involve work on the reporting tools, reviewing the full suite of learning materials and started to populate the learning catalogue.
