CivTech pilot programme will be based on problems specified by public authorities

Scotland’s Digital Transformation Service has launched an initiative to encourage the creation of products and services to support the country’s public sector.

Named the CivTech Pilot, the programme has the support of the Scottish Government and involves a series of challenges in which developers are being encouraged to produce solutions for problems specified by public authorities.

It is open to private and public sector organisations and citizen groups, and will provide an opportunity to win contracts.

Scott McLear, business communications manager of mygov.scot, said the use of the challenges should ensure any successful products have customers ready.

“And because we want the products to be as well-developed as possible, citizen groups as well as the Challenge Sponsor public sector organisation will be there to help,” he said.

“The benefits for the citizen are clear. They’re pretty clear for the public sector organisations too – better, more efficient services, and money saved that can be spent elsewhere. And for SMEs CivTech is going to create a swift, secure and practical path to win contracts from the public sector.”

The programme is due to get fully under way later in the summer.
