Schools in the South East of England are to receive an upgrade to their local area network (LAN) and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity as part of the Department for Education's (DfE) Connect The Classroom programme.
Across East Sussex, Essex, Kent, Hampshire and Surrey, 25 academies and schools are to receive LAN and Wi-Fi upgrades that include new cabling and improvements to connection speeds, security and network resilience.
The upgrades, valued at £2 million, are to be funded by the DfE’s Connect the Classroom programme. Connect the Classroom was announced in 2023 and is set to run until 2025. To gain the investment, schools must be within an education investment area or have been deemed by watchdog Ofsted as requiring improvements or inadequate.
The upgrades in the South East of England are to be carried out by MLL Telecom, a specialist in public sector connectivity that already works with South East Grid, a network that is working to improve connectivity in the region’s councils, public sector services and schools.
