Data analytics company SAS has signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant with a pledge to help service people develop their skills in its sector.

It said it will provide free training and significant discounts on learning and development products, and help service leavers transfer to a career in analytics.

The company is planning to work with the Career Transition Partnership and Forces Families Jobs to develop tailored pathways to employment. This will involve guaranteeing a job interview for any veteran who meets the minimum role criteria.

It will also provide new-hire employees, along with their spouses or partners, coaching and mentoring to adjust to new roles.

In addition, it has updated its HR policies to provide flexible leave and working to reserve service personnel and spouses to allow for deployments.

The covenant was signed by SAS UK and Ireland vice president country manager Roderick Crawford and Major General Tom Copinger-Symes, director of military digitisation at the Ministry of Defence.

Achieving potential

Crawford commented: “As an organisation, we recognise the unique skills and expertise that those in the services can bring to analytics. We’re proud to support them in achieving their full potential.”

SAS added that it has a strong relationship with the MoD and working towards achieving silver status in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

The covenant is aimed at ensuring members of the armed forces have full access to services including those relevant to starting a new career.
