Plan to step up use of data analytics could be scaled up across the NHS
Salford Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is beginning to lay the ground for a wider use of data analytics and digital technology around the NHS with the creation of a Digital Control Centre.
The trust has begun to put out its intention to potential suppliers with a prior information notice in the European Journal, indicating that the centre will act as a test bed that could potentially be extended across the NHS.
Although Salford Royal is not yet making public its plans for the centre, the document says it should bring the latest in data analytics and digital health to the organisation in order to improve the quality of its care and the patient experience. This should extend to social care, the document says.
The effort is scheduled to kick off with a market engagement event in late June.
The trust says it has been rated near the top of NHS England’s Digital Maturity Index, and has recently been chosen as a Centre for global digital exemplars, NHS care providers that extend their operations beyond their own boundaries through the use of technology and information flows. They are intended to be the first organisation’s in the health service to achieve paper-free status.
Earlier this year, Salford Royal revealed plans for a pilot to start uploading patient generated wearable data to its electronic patient record. Digital Health Intelligence reported it has the potential to include a wide range of clinical, biometric, lab, and lifestyle data generated by patients.
