Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (QVH) has signed a contract with Altera Digital Health to deliver an electronic patient record (EPR) system.
The agreement involves the use of the company’s Altera Sunrise EPR, which includes functions for data on core clinicals, order comms, e-observations, secure health messaging, mobile, patient flow, clinical performance management, theatres, e-prescribing and the patient administration system.
It will initially run for five years with a value of £10.6 million, and comes with an option to extend for two years to take the value to £12.2 million.
Altera said the EPR will provide QVH’s community services with remote access and the ability to contribute to a patient’s record during home visits and appointments at regional clinics.
Important milestone
Kirstin Timmins, chief operating officer at QVH, said: “Finalising the contract with Altera is an important milestone for QVH. Developing an EPR is an exciting project for us and a significant part of our digital and overall organisational strategy.
“The EPR system will support us to seamlessly collaborate and deliver timely, informed care, significantly reducing the time taken to access patient information. Colleagues were impressed with the benefits of Altera’s solution and are eager to progress the project and plan to go live.”
QVH, which is based in East Grinstead and provides specialist surgery and treatment on conditions including head and neck cancer and corneoplastics, is the second specialist trust to select Altera’s EPR, following Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
