Northern Ireland Police confirm plan to use company’s ControlWorks system
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has confirmed that Capita Communications and Control Solutions has won the deal to deliver its new command and control system.
The announcement comes several weeks after some details of the contract first emerged, although at the time the name of the supplier was kept confidential for security reasons.
It marks a continuation of the relationship between the two parties, with Capita having supplied its Atlas command and control system to the PSNI since 1995.
The company said it will now implement ControlWorks, its next generation solution for contact centre and control room operations, across PSNI’s three regional contact management centres. The contract is for an initial seven-year term and has incremental options to extend it to 17 years.
ControlWorks includes computer aided despatch and customer relationship management functions, and will enable PSNI to manage all its operations from a single viewpoint.
Future proof
“Technology plays a part in everything we do as a police service,” said PSNI Deputy Chief Constable Drew Harris. “It is vital that we invest in future proof solutions that enable us to provide effective and efficient services 24 hours a day in Northern Ireland.
“Capita’s ControlWorks solution will help us to do exactly that, supporting the way we respond to our communities’ needs and adapting to new and evolving policing challenges as they present themselves.”
PSNI has about 6 800 operational officers and 2 275 police staff and is structured into 11 operational districts, and maintains close links with other UK police forces and An Garda Siochana.
