HM Prison & Probation Service is planning to build a digital system to support efforts to integrate offenders back into the community when their sentences are served.
Its digital team has done some pre-discovery work on the Through the Gate system, and is now looking for a supplier to support the development of a prototype in a project budgeted at £500,000.
The service says in the procurement document that it is aiming to discover, assess, recommend and develop solutions to support prison leavers as they move back into the community, with the ultimate aim of reducing re-offending.
It says the digital service should increase the quality of support, helping leavers to deal with issues around access to money, benefits, housing, family, mental health services, bank accounts, anger management services and support in dealing with drug and alcohol addiction.
The project is the latest in a series from the Prison Service to use digital technology in the management and rehabilitation of prisoners. Earlier in the year its director of business change, Gary Monaghan explained to UKAuthority how the Digital Prisons programme is focused on safety in the institutions, and that it is looking at data analytics to strengthen security.
