More than 150 Portsmouth City Council sites have now been connected to full fibre under its network services contract with MLL Telecom.
The company said it has completed the first phase of the project to consolidate the council’s previous solutions into a single 132km high speed network deployed by CityFibre as part of the Solent Network Framework contract.
The transition, which was carried out between April and December of last year, has taken in council offices, schools, libraries and CCTV assets.
MLL will now provide the sites with a range of core managed wide area network services and access to the Health and Social Care Network.
Phase two of the project has now begun, with the company due to light up full fibre services to a further 126 sites by November of this year. It will then run multiple protocol label switching and software defined wide area network services over the new fibre.
The deal should give Portsmouth Council assured connectivity speeds for the next 20 years, MLL said.
